You are a pig born into a world without pity in this immersive VR documentary film using 360° footage captured by undercover investigators.
‘FINDING THE FILM’
Animal Equality initially sought to hire me only as a screenwriter to script the premier installment of their then-untitled 360° documentary series, but their producer (who normally serves as the organization’s Director of Investigations) was struggling to “find the film” in their raw footage.
I introduced this investigator-turned-producer to my work as a film director and pitched him the idea of hiring me as the project’s filmmaker. He promptly overnighted all the raw footage to me, along with a VR headset.
From there, I set about going through all the excruciating footage and discovered he and the other investigators had captured enough footage at the eye level of a pig to present an entire film through the eyes of a pig. I selected and arranged the footage that would tell that story in the format of a paper edit, which I sent to the organization’s in-house video editor.
Then I wrote the script to address you—the audience—as the hapless pig. Throughout post-production, I continued providing creative direction.
In addition to receiving great coverage from Engadget and VICE, among others, THROUGH THE EYES OF A PIG won Best 360° Film at the German Web Video Awards.
